Charity Support
An integral part of the education we received in Monkstown was the development of the awareness of our responsibilities to those less privileged than ourselves.
Over the 16 years since the Monstown Park PPU was reformed the Union has supported various charitable activities and organisations. Whilst this support had always been readily forthcoming in previous years it was decided to put it on a more formal footing.
To establish our Charitable Fund we increased the Membership Subscription of IR£10 (Euro 12.70) to €25, with €10 of this being allocated to charity. To this end we have held various fund-raising events, in particular our ever popular Table Quizzes, for specific charities.
Over the last 12 years we have made donations to many causes, the amount to date standing in excess of 20,000euro, a tribute to the generosity of those who have supported us.
The recipients have been as follows:
Blackrock Hospice
Zambian Water Project
This is a school-based project in which students from CBC are involved.
GOAL
Dun Laoghaire Drugs Awareness
The Union sponsored 100 calenders. These were designed by those affected by drugs.
A copy was sent to all schools in the area
St Vincent de Paul
Child Aid India
This organisation is run by Tony Barron, a past pupil.
St Joseph of Cluny Sisters - Haiti Appeal
We made direct contribution to the Sisters who operate 14 units in Haiti.
We also assisted with some fund-raising activities in aid of the Alzheimers Society of Ireland, one such event being a Table Quiz organised by the Parents Society of St. Joseph of Cluny School, Killiney.
In addition to the above the Union has contributed financial assistance towards the cost of four overseas rugby training trips to Argentina, Canada, Australia as well as France. These trips have helped in many ways in the wider development of the participants
We express our most sincere thanks to all of you who through the membership fee, by attending our Quiz Nights or donating spot prizes have supported our charitable endeavopurs..
If you would like to assist the PPU you can do so by signing up as a member of the Union. You can send remittance direct to the PPU via the College.
