Annual Golf Classic 2020

24/7/2020

Picture
A restricted Golf Classic will be held in Dun Laoghaire Golf Club on Friday, August 21st.
Our primary concern is to ensure our members' safety and wellbeing and with this in mind there will be no shotgun start and no prize giving dinner.  Hopefully we can go back to this format in 2021.

We have a limited number of tee times available from 14:00 which we will allocate on a ‘first come first served’ basis. The format will be the usual singles stableford with the best two scores on each hole to be counted for the team event.

As there will be no dinner or social, there will be no raffle or fundraising activities and the committee has not sought sponsorship for either golf prizes, raffle prizes or auction items.  The PPU will fund the (very modest) prizes for the first three individuals and the members of the winning team with the individual winner getting their name on the famous trophy.  By the way, if anyone does fancy helping out with sponsoring golf prizes or goodies bags, we would be delighted to accept and acknowledge this – just let us know at cbcppu@gmail.com .  All participants will get a goodie bag with an extra ‘something’ for paid-up members of the PPU.

The cost to play is €40 or €10 for Dun Laoghaire Golf Club members.  Entries will be taken on the basis of teams of four.  If you cannot get four together, but still wish to play, you can let us know by email and we will do our best to get you out (but given the limited numbers, please appreciate we cannot guarantee this. Entry to the event can only be confirmed on receipt of payment, details of which can be found below.

An informal prize-giving, adhering to public health guidelines will take place as soon as is practical after the last group finish.  Depending on the latest Covid-19 guidelines, this may take place outdoors or (hopefully) in the club bar – we will advise you on the day. Hopefully we can return to a full scale event again in 2021.

To help us plan tee-times please confirm by Tuesday, August 4th if you want to participate.

The PPU will provisionally hold its AGM on Thursday, May 21st and all paid up members of the PPU are invited to attend. We would ask those paid up members of the PPU who are interested in joining us at our AGM to register your intent by emailing us at cbcppu@gmail.com. Alternatively you can call Dermot Kelly, PPU President, on 083 801 5661. We will issue the agenda and link details within the next few weeks.

Sean Drummond Fund raiser

18/3/2020

Picture
We are delighted to announce that we had a highly successful table quiz fund raiser on Friday, March 6th in the College hall to support Sean Drummond's long term rehabilitation care. We had over 160 participants and managed to raise over €10,000 from the entry fees, donations, auctions and raffle. We are still looking to add to this amount and have set a total target of €12,000. So, if you are in a position to make a donation, please do so today - check how to do so below.

We would like to thank all of the participants, donors and sponsors for their incredible support. Similarly we would like to thank Gerry Duffy, Principal, and Liam Murnane, Vice Principal, for the great support from the College. A note of thanks also to Sean's father, Tommy, who provided an update on Sean's progress and expressed his gratitude to all involved in the fund raiser.

We are still seeking to increase the funds raised so please make your donation here:

Class of 1960 Reunion

25/2/2020

Picture
Hello any former classmates from 1960 still about. As this year is the 60th anniversary, and unfortunately having missed the 50th ten years ago, if there are any who would be interested in getting together during 2020, I would be very happy to make contact and see what could be arranged. Russell Burke of the PPU has been very helpful though a little constrained by GDPR, but if we could get the ball rolling, perhaps we could see who might still be available and interested.
There is a list of 1960’s class on the CBC website, but recalling other names and looking at the rather bedraggled newspaper clip from 1960 there were quite a few more who graduated then.

Hoping for some feedback, best wishes to all.

Annual Golf Classic

Picture
The PPU‘s annual golf classic is taking place once again in Dun Laoghaire Golf Club on Friday August 23rd . There will be a ‘shotgun’ start at 14:00 which means everyone will finish around the same time and in plenty of time for dinner. The format will be teams of four and also an individual competition. This will be followed by dinner and prize-giving in the Clubhouse at 20:00.

The cost for golf and dinner will be €75 per person (or €45 for Dun Laoghaire Golf Club members) including a free sleeve of golf balls for current PPU members. Golf only and dinner only options are also available (please see below for details). Please email us at cbcppu@gmail.com for more information or complete the form below. To book your place, please pay using the link below either in full or pay a (non-refundable) deposit of €25 and you can pay the balance later.

To all those that have booked their places we look forward to seeing you on the 23 rd . Please ensure you are ready by 13:30 as, with the shotgun start, you will need time to get out to your allocated tee box.

As of now we have three lines left if you would still like to participate but please book soon as, with the shotgun start, once we are full we are full. Your place will only be confirmed when either a deposit or (preferably) full payment is received. For anyone who would like to play, but is not yet part of a team, please let us know as we have a few individual participants registered who will be looking to form teams which we will be happy to facilitate.

Many thanks to those who have already offered us sponsorship. This helps us keep the cost of participation down and the quality of the prizes up. We would have room for one more sponsor if any past pupil would be kind enough to offer it. If interested, please let us know using the contact from below or at cbcppu@gmail.com.The PPU will ensure that any sponsor will get acknowledgment and significant recognition both on the day of the classic and at other PPU events.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 23 rd for the golfing, dining and socialising.

If you are interested please sign up below or drop us a message.
