The Past Pupils Union is hoping to mark 75 years since the foundation of CBC in 1950 and 50 years since the 1975/76 season which saw CBC's only Leinster Senior Cup win (to date!) on St. Patrick's Day in 1976 by raising enough money to be able to make a donation of a scrum machine to supplement CBC’s sports facilities.
The executive committee of the PPU is aware that a new scrum machine is needed and believes such a donation would make a significant positive contribution to the rugby department in CBC. Such a high-ticket item is not easily accommodated in a secondary school budget where there are understandably many competing priorities. With this in mind, the committee feels that while this is a very ambitious plan, the well established good will and historic generosity of the significant number of CBC Monkstown pupils that have graced the school since 1950 can be leveraged to deliver what would be a wonderful result for the school.
The PPU itself is not a fund-raising body, but it does lend it support to worthy causes from time to time. For instance, the PPU was very proud to raise over €11,000 to help with the care needed for Sean Drummond (Class 2013) who suffered traumatic injuries in an accident in 2019. To mark 75 years of its history, the PPU believes it is appropriate the mark the occasion accordingly.
A number of events, including our annual golf outing, will be held in 2025 to support this cause. Watch this space for further details. In the meantime, we are calling on all past pupils, and indeed anyone connected to CBC, to give a little something towards reaching our target of over €5,000.
Please consider making a donation to help the PPU reach its target. All funds received will go directly to funding the purchase of a scrum machine that will be presented to the college by the PPU, hopefully in time to benefit next season’s senior cup squad with any excess funds, if any, being donated to charity.
The PU asks all to give what they can here, by supporting the events that will be organised during 2025, and we also ask that you share a link to this page as extensively as you can using whatever social media platform you can. Donate €200, €100, €50, €20 or €10 below. For larger donations (and to save on charges) please contact the PPU at [email protected] for bank transfer details.
