Statement from CBC Monkstown Park Past Pupils Union
31st May 2024
CBC Monkstown Park Past Pupils Union is deeply saddened that a former teacher of the school, Gerry O’Brien sexually assaulted pupils of the school and other victims, who have bravely come forward to make their experiences known, leading to his conviction on the 22nd of December 2023 and sentencing today (31st of May 2024).
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to all those affected by what occurred, as well as their families. We admire and thank them for revealing these shocking incidents.
To our fellow past pupils affected by these crimes, we stand in full solidarity and support with and for you.
The crimes detailed in the court proceedings are abhorrent and represent the most grievous breach of trust by Gerry O’Brien.
We encourage anyone who is affected, distressed or concerned by these matters, to seek support and we note that the school has put in place a dedicated and confidential support service. The dedicated email address to which all enquiries should be addressed is: [email protected]
These matters are undoubtedly upsetting and horrifying to the entire school community, past and present. Our thoughts are with the victims.
